With GOD...

This verse shows us a contrast between the human perspective and that which is visible to God. It is likely that this young ruler felt that he was good and saw himself as living a life of honor to God. Likely, he was respected by his community and enjoyed good relationships. He was, after all, in a leadership role that pointed people to God. Yet, God was able to see what he and others could not see hidden deep within his heart.

We should applaud this leader's courage. Not many would have approached Jesus to ask for such accountability. Whether this leader asked to receive kudos, or if he asked because he could sense he was missing something, when Jesus pointed out what he could do he left sorrowful. Perhaps his desire to protect and shield himself through his wealth was overwhelmingly important. Understandable, right? Whatever the case, this leader walked away in sorrow instead of surrender. Isn't it something how badly the truth can cause us to employ various defenses? We often see ourselves as good and congratulate ourselves on what we get right - completely ignoring the areas that need work. Lord, help us!

The scripture highlights the principle that with God (our obedience and surrender to His work on us) all things are possible. Are all things really possible? YES!! All things are possible with God, the big and the little things, the courage to give it all away, the courage to face the truth about our blind spots, the willingness to give up self-serving behaviors to fully embrace a life that blesses God. All things are possible with God.

Happy Memorial Day

My focus this year is to pray for the families that are grieving the loss(es) of loved ones for the mission and vision of freedom. Will you join me in lifting these families, whether known or unknown to you, before the Lord?
